Mission and Vision
Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE) is a leading department in the faculty of life science at MBSTU. The technology of genetic engineering is used generally aimed at harnessing the natural biological capabilities of microbial, plant and animal cells for the benefit of mankind. More specifically termed “Biotechnology”, couples biological science and engineering principles with commercial considerations to develop and improve products and processes made from living systems.
The department got approval in 2005 and started its academic activity from 2005-2006 academic session. The BGE department currently offers four years B.Sc. (Hons.), one and half-yearly MS program and recently enrolled PhD students in 2018-2019 session. In B.Sc. (Hons.) program, the department offer comprehensive education in all aspects of modern
Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering including basic sciences such as biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, immunology, genetics as well as applied sciences, such as- bioinformatics, animal biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, clinical biochemistry, plant biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, forensic biotechnology, pharmaceutical biotechnology etc. and related laboratory techniques. The MS. program aims to introduce the graduate students with advanced knowledge in the field of life science such as molecular biology, developmental biology, neuroscience, system biology, microbial genetics and genomic and proteomics etc.
The department provides well-equipped laboratories and classrooms. There is also a well decorated developed seminar hall for arrangement of national and international seminars and conferences to improve the degree of knowledge about recent advancement of the field of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. It also consists of seminar library that provides recent edition of international printed books as well as e-books for update the knowledge of the students related to class lectures. Now students also get the facilities to use internet for searching their quires. The department also provides emphasis and opportunity to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
